MPP Arnott recognizes former School Board Chair Ethel Gardiner

Halton District School Board congratulated for its decision to name new school after Mrs. Gardiner

Queen's Park – Wellington-Halton Hills MPP Ted Arnott yesterday congratulated the Halton District School Board for its decision to name a new school, now under construction in south Georgetown, after former board chair and trustee Ethel Gardiner.

“There is no more appropriate name, and no more fitting person in Halton Hills, to be honoured in this way,” stated Mr. Arnott in the Legislature.

Ethel Gardiner passed away in June 2007 after a long and distinguished career in education. She served in many capacities with the Halton District School Board, including classroom and special education teacher, interim administrator, trustee and Chair of the Board.

Mr. Arnott recalled his own memory of Mrs. Gardiner.

“I was immediately impressed with her down-to-earth sincerity, her passion for public education, and the way she saw everyone, students and staff alike, as part of her extended family,” he said.

The new school is to be constructed according to environmentally sustainable LEED standards (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design).
