Kitchener-Waterloo Annual Spring Reception Introduction of Elizabeth Witmer, MPP Remarks by Ted Arnott, MPP

My wife Lisa and I are delighted to be here with you tonight, and I'm honoured to have this chance to say a few words.

When Elizabeth asked me to introduce her, she specifically told me to be brief. “Two minutes max,” she said.

It's a good thing she said that, because as many of you know, when it comes to talking about what a terrific person Elizabeth Witmer is, and the importance of her work, I could go on all night long.

In fact, when she first launched her website www.elizabethwitmer.ca, I thought the “w-w-w” stood for “Witmer Walks on Water.”

Last night in anticipation of this event, I was thinking back to the very first “Waterloo North” fundraiser that I attended here at the Westmount, back in 1991.

The crowd was small, but I vividly remember a warmth in the room, that made it seem like all here were good friends.

It wasn't like so many of these kinds of events I've been to since, in Toronto, where it seems that many of the people are only there because they want something for themselves. It wasn't like that at all.

Instead people were here in 1991 to show support for their wonderful new MPP, Elizabeth Witmer.

Each year, the crowd grew, and grew, and grew, as her work touched more lives, and her warm personality touched more hearts.

But to me, it always seems that everyone at this Annual Spring Reception is here because your idealism has been rekindled, and your faith in politicians has been restored by one very special person, who deserves all the admiration she continues to inspire.

Please join me in expressing our thanks to the Deputy Leader of the Ontario PC Party and MPP for Kitchener-Waterloo – Elizabeth Witmer!
