MPP
Arnott calls on Government to stop dragging its feet
on dialysis clinic for Palmerston and District Hospital
Waterloo-Wellington
MPP Ted Arnott is again calling upon the Provincial
Government to stop dragging its feet and allow the Palmerston
and District Hospital to move forward with its new dialysis
clinic.
"Our
kidney patients have waited far too long to have dialysis
service closer to home," Mr. Arnott said. "It's
past time for the Minister of Health to make this issue
a priority," he added.
Two
years ago, the Ministry of Health announced that a new
satellite dialysis clinic for North Wellington, in cooperation
with the Grand River Hospital in Kitchener, would soon
be a reality. However, the Hospital is still awaiting
final approval from the Minister to move forward with
the project.
Mr.
Arnott said he hopes that politics are not interfering
with the timing of the approval.
"With
a Provincial Election on the horizon, the Liberal campaign
team seems to have taken over deciding the timing of
key Government announcements," he stated. "Surely
the interest of dialysis patients should come ahead
of the waning fortunes of the Liberal Party of Ontario,"
he concluded.
On
January 23rd, Mr. Arnott wrote an open letter to the
Minister of Health, the Hon. George Smitherman, calling
attention to the problem. He has yet to receive a satisfactory
response.
