Minister asked to finally approve Wellington CT scanner
MPP Ted Arnott hopes Georgetown CT scanner won't face similar delays

Queen's Park – Despite having submitted its request last February, Groves Memorial Community Hospital in Fergus is still awaiting approval for its needed CT scanner. It's a delay that Wellington - Halton Hills MPP Ted Arnott calls unacceptable.

“It's unfortunate the Minister of Health seems to be dragging his feet on this,” said Mr. Arnott. When questioned yesterday in the Legislature, Health Minister George Smitherman told Mr. Arnott he was “very, very supportive” of the CT scanner for Fergus, but did not comment on when approval might be forthcoming.

“I wrote the Minister in support of the project when I was asked to do so in June, and I also wrote the Minister the very morning after the election eight weeks ago, asking the minister to approve it,” said Mr. Arnott in the Legislature.

Mr. Arnott also drew attention to Georgetown Hospital, which will also be submitting a proposal for a CT scanner in the near future. Mr. Arnott has been in contact with hospital administrators in Georgetown, and he hopes they will not face the same delay afflicting the Wellington CT scanner proposal.

“Our local hospitals have demonstrated a need for this equipment, and I will continue pushing the Minister of Health to make this a top priority,” concluded Mr. Arnott.
