Thank your doctors and health care professionals, says MPP Arnott

Attracting and retaining health care professionals are huge challenges in most communities in Ontario. The Ministry of Health must do more to provide leadership with appropriate incentive programs. But the simple act of saying thanks can make a big difference, says Waterloo-Wellington MPP Ted Arnott.

“We're so fortunate to have outstanding Doctors, Nurses, Technicians, and Staff, all of whom have opportunities to practice just about anywhere in the world,” Mr. Arnott said. “We need more of them. We shouldn't be shy about expressing our appreciation for what they do, and we should support them in any way we can.”

On Sunday April 29th, Mr. Arnott attended an appreciation event organized by the Groves Memorial Community Hospital and the Upper Grand Family Health Team that welcomed two new doctors and thanked local health care professionals.

“This was a great way to welcome Dr. Shahida Sultana and Dr. Amanda Wagler and thank our currently practising doctors and health professionals,” said Mr. Arnott.

Centre Wellington is not alone in its efforts to show appreciation to physicians. This week, the Region of Halton is holding its fifth annual Physician Appreciation Week.

“The Region of Halton should be acknowledged for their efforts in recruiting doctors, which are enhanced by their willingness to say thank you,” he concluded.
