PCs commit to improving care for seniors
A
Progressive Conservative Government led by John Tory
would seek to improve the quality of life for seniors
in Ontario’s long-term care homes.
“John
Tory and Elizabeth Witmer have announced a plan that
would upgrade 35,000 nursing home beds so that our
seniors have more living space, privacy and dignity,”
said Waterloo-Wellington MPP Ted Arnott.
Mr.
Arnott wants to see the Government make a stronger
commitment to long-term care, and he is very enthusiastic
about the PC policy initiative.
“Just
last Friday, I visited a nursing home in Fergus. My
time with the residents reminded me that our seniors
deserve the very best care we can give them,” he added.
“With all they’ve done for us, the least we can do
is repay them with kindness and compassion.”
Mr.
Tory and Mrs. Witmer detailed the first part of what
a PC Government would do to address Ontario’s long-term
care needs on April 17th. The PCs would upgrade remaining
sub-standard long-term care beds to the highest ‘A’
level standard. Today there are 35,000 Ontarians living
in lower standard long-term care beds that only meet
design standards from 1972. This means eliminating
all three and four bed wards, ensuring all long-term
care residents have the dignity of an en-suite bathroom,
wheelchair accessible halls and the opportunity to
sleep, eat and spend time with their families in a
comfortable environment with relative privacy and
improved dignity. As well, they advocated for incentives
for doctors and improvements to front-line care.
