‘Campaign
mode’ Legislature setting a cynical precedent
in Ontario, says MPP Arnott
The
Ontario Legislature has resumed sitting and MPP
Ted Arnott says that the public interest is being
shunted aside as a result of a ‘campaign mode’
Liberal Government at Queen’s Park.
The
next Provincial election will be on October 4th,
2007, more than a year away.
“I’m
surprised that senior Liberal MPPs are saying
that the election campaign has already begun.
They haven’t even served three years of this mandate,”
Mr. Arnott said.
“Now
that they have the election date set, the McGuinty
Liberals seem to be using the Legislature for
little more than partisan political campaigning.
They are setting a cynical precedent whereby the
Government of Ontario has been placed in campaign
mode instead of working on behalf of all Ontarians,”
he added.
“When
this particular group of Liberals has begun to
campaign for re-election, you have to question
every single thing they say. People know Mr. McGuinty
will say anything to try and get elected, based
on his performance last time,” Mr Arnott said.
As
the sitting proceeds, Mr. Arnott is committed
to continuing to raise important and urgent issues
on behalf of area constituents.
“The
Government must begin to address the doctor shortage
and the factory jobs that are leaving Ontario
in droves. Caledonia, municipal infrastructure,
agriculture, tourism, and transportation are also
key issues that the Government must prioritize,”
Mr. Arnott said.
