MPP Arnott congratulates municipal officials on successful
COMRIF applications

The County of Wellington, and the Townships of Centre Wellington, Guelph/Eramosa, Mapleton, Wellington North, and Woolwich received good news today from the Federal and Provincial Governments. Through the Canada-Ontario Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund, each of these municipalities will be receiving substantial grants to assist with vital and necessary infrastructure projects.

Waterloo-Wellington MPP Ted Arnott congratulated Wellington County Council and Staff, and the Councils and Staffs of the Townships of Centre Wellington, Guelph/Eramosa, Mapleton, Wellington North and Woolwich on their good fortune.

“Our municipal officials did a superb job in demonstrating our need for these new bridges, a new sewage treatment plant, and other projects,” Mr. Arnott stated. “I have expressed support for all of Waterloo-Wellington’s COMRIF applications, and I am glad that some of our municipalities will benefit from this round of Federal and Provincial funding.”

For the past three years, Mr. Arnott has been raising the need for infrastructure improvements in his Riding, by advocating for the Waterloo-Wellington Transportation Action Plan. “By persistently and repeatedly talking about our transportation issues, I have been trying to get the Provincial Government to make this a higher priority,” he added.

“I am well aware that the Provincial COMRIF grants don’t go far enough towards meeting all of our infrastructure needs,” Mr. Arnott said. “The fact remains that the McGuinty Liberal Government is sharing the Provincial gas tax with municipalities which have transit systems. However, rural municipalities which don’t have public transit receive nothing from this sharing of the gas tax for their transportation needs. This amounts to discrimination against rural Ontario residents. Clearly, there is more work to do on this issue,” he concluded.
