MPP
Arnott continues to raise Waterloo-Wellington
Transportation Action Plan in Legislature
Having
identified transportation as a key priority in
Waterloo-Wellington, MPP Ted Arnott is continuing
to demand Government action on the projects in
the Waterloo-Wellington Transportation Action
Plan.
Developed
in consultation with area municipal councils,
the Action Plan calls for implementing the corridor
study of Highway 7/8 between Kitchener and Stratford,
a new four-lane Highway 7 from Kitchener to Guelph,
assistance for Wellington County to rebuild Highway
24 from Guelph to Cambridge, a repaired and upgraded
Highway 6 from Fergus to Mount Forest, Waterloo
Region’s Light Rail Transit Initiative, OSTAR
–type funding for transportation related projects,
and other projects.
“I
was pleased to have the opportunity to once again
raise our transportation needs in the Ontario
Legislature on April 28th,” Mr. Arnott said. “I
intend to keep pounding away on this as long as
it takes to ensure that our area is not neglected
by the Ministers of Transportation and Public
Infrastructure Renewal.”
Recently
the Provincial and Federal Governments announced
support for a number of infrastructure projects
in and around Waterloo-Wellington through the
Canada-Ontario Municipal Rural Infrastructure
Fund (COMRIF). “I’m sure that these funds will
be put to good use,” Mr. Arnott told the House,
complimenting the successful municipal applicants.
At
the same time Mr. Arnott was concerned that some
worthy applications were rejected in this round
of COMRIF announcements. The two senior levels
of Government have indicated that a new round
of COMRIF funding will be announced in the coming
weeks.
“It
is my intention to do all that I can to ensure
that our area receives its fair share of available
funding,” Mr. Arnott concluded.
