Timely action needed to protect jobs, says

Waterloo-Wellington
MPP Ted Arnott has tabled a motion in the Ontario
Legislature calling on the Provincial Government
to help ensure that Ontario’s industries are prepared
to meet emerging challenges in the global economy.
“We
cannot take current favourable economic conditions
for granted,” said Mr. Arnott. “The world isn’t
standing still and our manufacturers are facing
unprecedented challenges in the global marketplace.
If we aren’t competitive we will lose jobs.”
“I’m
asking the Legislature to look ahead, see what’s
on the horizon and develop a strategy so that
companies large and small can expand their markets
and create new jobs. We need an action plan now
that will set the stage for future growth,” Mr.
Arnott added.
Mr.
Arnott’s motion, presented to the Ontario Legislature
on May 31st reads as follows: That in the opinion
of this House, the Standing Committee on Finance
and Economic Affairs should immediately begin
an investigation into Ontario's industrial and
economic competitiveness, to develop an action
plan to maintain and expand our domestic and international
markets in the coming years.
Mr.
Arnott says he will be seeking support for his
resolution from industry leaders.
“I
think action must be taken to secure the future
of our economy, and generate the revenues needed
to provide priority services like health care,
education and rebuilding our infrastructure,”
Mr. Arnott concluded.
