MPP
Arnott meets MTO officials to push for Waterloo-Wellington
Transportation Action Plan
Waterloo-Wellington
MPP Ted Arnott initiated a meeting with Ministry
of Transportation officials to discuss the Waterloo-Wellington
Transportation Action Plan on August 30th. He
met with Southwestern Regional Director, Brian
Peltier and Engineering Office Manager, Kevin
Bentley at the Ministry office in London.
“Our
Transportation Action Plan represents the top
priorities provided to me by the eleven municipalities
of Waterloo-Wellington. I continue to advocate
for these projects in the House and I think it’s
also important to meet with the Ministry officials
involved to share information and to press our
case. I appreciate the efforts of Mr. Peltier
and Mr. Bentley, and other staff at the MTO office
in London,” said Mr. Arnott.
Key
projects that Mr. Arnott is supporting on behalf
of municipalities include completion of the work
identified in the corridor study of Highways 7
and 8 through Wilmot township, between Kitchener
and Stratford; a new four-lane Highway 7 between
Guelph and Kitchener; assistance for the county
of Wellington to rebuild Highway 24 from Guelph
to Cambridge; a repaired and upgraded Highway
6 from Fergus north to Mount Forest; Waterloo
region's light rail transit initiative; as well
as the need for a new grant program like OSTAR
to help rural municipalities and other important
projects.
“The
Liberal Government has been in office for almost
a year now. I brought the Waterloo-Wellington
Transportation Action Plan to their attention
the day after they were elected. I am very disappointed
that there has not been more progress on these
projects that have been submitted by municipalities.
I intend to continue to raise these with the Minister
of Transportation and Government,” Mr. Arnott
concluded.
