MPP Arnott Raises Transportation Action Plan with Incoming Premier

Waterloo-Wellington MPP Ted Arnott is wasting no time in continuing to advocate for transportation improvements in his riding. On October 3rd, the day after his re-election to the Ontario Legislature, Mr. Arnott wrote the incoming Premier Dalton McGuinty, in support of the Waterloo-Wellington Transportation Action Plan.

“Starting back in January, I consulted with our municipal partners to put together a plan that represents our top transportation priorities for the next five years and beyond. They provided recommendations that became the Waterloo-Wellington Transportation Action Plan. We moved forward with a meeting of the municipalities and the Minister of Transportation and I raised our Action Plan in the Legislature,” said Mr. Arnott.

“Looking ahead, I plan to continue to stand up in support of all projects in the Waterloo-Wellington Transportation Action Plan. By writing to the incoming Premier, I want to provide an immediate opportunity for our priorities to be reviewed, understood, and acted upon, hopefully in a positive and constructive way,” he added.

All 11 municipalities that he represents provided Mr. Arnott with ideas for projects that form the Waterloo-Wellington Transportation Action Plan. The Action Plan is composed of over 40 recommendations with recurrent support for implementing the corridor study of Highway 7/8 between Kitchener and Stratford, a new four-lane Highway 7 from Kitchener to Guelph, assistance for Wellington County to rebuild Highway 24 from Guelph to Cambridge, a repaired and upgraded Highway 6 from Fergus to Mount Forest, Waterloo Region’s Light Rail Transit Initiative, OSTAR funding for transportation related projects, and other projects.

“The residents of Waterloo-Wellington need and deserve excellent roads, highways and transit for their safe travel. Putting our Action Plan forward now, provides an early opportunity for the incoming Premier to review and consider our top transportation needs before the cabinet is selected. I’ve also asked him to assign it to the new Minister of Transportation as soon as that person is appointed,” Mr. Arnott concluded.
