Ted Arnott Sworn in to Legislature and Assigned Opposition
Critic Portfolio
Surrounded
by his family and friends, and placing his hand on a
Bible passed on from his grandparents, Waterloo-Wellington
MPP Ted Arnott took his fourth oath of allegiance at
Queen’s Park to serve as MPP in the 38th Parliament
on November 5th, 2003.
That
day, Mr. Arnott was also chosen to serve as Ontario’s
Official Opposition Critic for Children’s Services,
Citizenship and Immigration.
“I
look forward to the challenges of these new responsibilities.
I intend to provide constructive advice to the Government
when possible and to provide criticism when necessary
and appropriate,” said Mr. Arnott.
Mr.
Arnott has worked to enhance services that benefit families
and children by supporting the Healthy Babies, Healthy
Children program. This program helps ensure that children
have the best possible start in life, and gives parents
access to resources and services they need for their
children.
In
April 1998, the Legislature debated and passed Mr. Arnott’s
Private Member’s
Resolution
highlighting the Healthy Babies, Healthy Children program.
Following its passage the Province committed to increasing
the funding for the program by five-fold from its original
budget of $10 million to $50 million by the year 2000-2001.
This funding commitment has since increased to almost
$73 million, which was the amount proposed in the 2003-2004
budget.
“Our
job in Opposition is to hold the Government accountable
to the people of Ontario, and to be prepared to form
the Government when the voters may call on us to do
so,” Mr. Arnott concluded.
