Ted Arnott Asks for Constituents’ Input for Next Provincial
Budget
Waterloo-Wellington
MPP Ted Arnott is looking for advice from his constituents
as he works with a legislative committee to conduct
consultations for the next Provincial budget.
Last
fall, Mr. Arnott was elected Vice-Chair of the Standing
Committee on Finance and Economic Affairs, an all-party
committee that conducts the pre-budget consultations.
In a busy schedule running from January 27 to February
6, the Committee will hear from groups and individuals
and gather ideas and priorities for the upcoming budget.
Along
with hearings in Toronto, the members will travel to
London, Sudbury, Thunder Bay and Ottawa. After receiving
submissions, the Committee will write a report for the
Minister of Finance, the Honourable Janet Ecker, for
her consideration in developing the budget. In the past,
the provincial budget has rarely been tabled before
the month of May. However, the Premier has committed
to bringing in a budget before the start of the new
fiscal year, which begins on April 1, 2003.
“This
is a major consultation that helps determine the fiscal
course that the Province will take over the next year.
It’s about how we apply sound principles like balancing
the budget and paying down debt to support economic
growth and job creation in Waterloo-Wellington. Equally,
it’s about priorities that establish a high quality
of life including education, health care, a clean environment,
safe communities, and investing in transportation infrastructure,”
Mr. Arnott said.
Mr.
Arnott invites his constituents to send their ideas
for the budget in writing to his Riding Office at 181
St. Andrew St. E., 2nd Floor, Fergus, Ontario N1M 1P9
(or by e-mail to ted_arnott@ontla.ola.org). He will
ensure that the views put forward are brought to the
attention of the Finance Minister.
