MPP Arnott Supports Traditional Definition of Marriage

Waterloo-Wellington MPP Ted Arnott is absolutely in favour of the traditional definition of marriage, and wants to thank constituents for their overwhelming support on the issue.

“I have always believed in the traditional definition of marriage, as being the union of one man and one woman,” Mr. Arnott said. “Families are the foundation of our society, and our Waterloo-Wellington constituents are expressing their belief in traditional marriage loudly and clearly.”

In June, the Ontario Court of Appeal ruled that the traditional definition of marriage violated Canada’s Charter of Rights and Freedoms. In response to a media enquiry, Mr. Arnott immediately disagreed with the decision. “It’s most unfortunate that the federal government decided not to appeal the lower court’s ruling to the Supreme Court of Canada,” he said.

In recent weeks, Mr. Arnott’s office has received literally hundreds of calls, letters and e-mails on the marriage issue.

“It’s time that governments at all levels listen to the people before one of our most cherished institutions is irrevocably altered,” Mr. Arnott concluded.
