MPP Ted Arnott Announces Funding for Literacy Training for Adults

Waterloo-Wellington MPP Ted Arnott has received word that the Government of Ontario is investing $119,000 to strengthen literacy training for adults. The money is being provided to Laubach Literacy of Kitchener, Project READ Literacy Network of Kitchener, and to the Action Read Community Literacy Centre of Guelph.

“I welcome this investment as something that will improve the quality of life for people in our Waterloo-Wellington area. Literacy skills boost an individual’s ability to succeed in the workplace, especially in a rapidly changing and competitive economy,” said Mr. Arnott.

“As more people benefit from these programs and develop their ability to read and write, all of us will benefit from stronger communities and a better trained workforce,” he added.

The Laubach Literacy organization in Kitchener is receiving a total of $55,000 for projects that include the development of training approaches and resources such as handbooks for educators. The Project READ Literacy Network is receiving $49,000 for projects to make adult literacy education available online by computer, and to develop strategies for the delivery of literacy training in the workplace. The Action Read Community Literacy Centre of Guelph is receiving $15,000 to research and field test innovative technologies to better serve adults who face a number of barriers to learning.
