MPP Ted Arnott Visits OPP and Presents Cheques
to help Support Local Policing Initiatives

Waterloo-Wellington MPP Ted Arnott met with Wellington County OPP Inspector Steve Walsh on March 18, 2002 to talk about policing issues and to present cheques from the Government of Ontario that will support local policing initiatives.
Mr. Arnott presented a cheque for $19,020 under the Youth Crime and Violence Initiative, Prevention and Enforcement Grant Program for the local project, Choices and Voices. The grant program is aimed at reducing youth crime through prevention measures that foster a sense of respect and responsibility and enforcement measures that work with community partners to help ensure that young offenders don’t become repeat offenders.
He also presented a cheque for $16,095.48 to help cover the salary, benefits and overtime costs associated with hiring a new front-line police officer under the Community Policing Partnerships program. That cheque was made payable to the County of Wellington, which was the first County in Ontario to engage the OPP in a long-term contract for police services effective September 1999.
“I commend the Wellington County OPP who, with the leadership of Inspector Walsh, have been successful in obtaining these grants. Our communities will benefit from well planned and innovative approaches to prevent and deal with youth crime and continue to benefit from an enhanced police staff,” said Mr. Arnott.

“Policing is one of our most vital services. We cannot thank enough each and every police officer for the courage and dedication they bring to their jobs every day. Our safety and quality of life depends on it,” he concluded.
