MPP Ted Arnott Announces Provincial Funding to Enhance the Community Recreational Centre in Fergus

Waterloo-Wellington MPP Ted Arnott has announced that the Government of Ontario will contribute $1.2 million to help the Township of Centre Wellington build on in a major way to the community recreational centre in Fergus. The project will add a new arena and provide the area with an indoor pool.

“This is a considerable investment in public infrastructure for the Township of Centre Wellington. I want to congratulate the Mayor, Council, and staff of the Township of Centre Wellington and the Parks and Recreation Department for their successful application,” Mr. Arnott said.

“They’ve done excellent work in building partnerships and generating enthusiastic support. Residents in our area will benefit for many years to come,” he added.

The recreational centre is being developed with special events in mind so that the community may provide enhanced accommodations for the numerous community events. More space for events and venues would enable the region’s festivals to grow.

Provincial funding is being provided through the Sports, Culture and Tourism Partnerships (SCTP) component of the Ontario Government’s SuperBuild strategy to build for the future. Mr. Arnott received confirmation of the provincial share of the project from the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation, Tim Hudak. The total net cost of the project is $10,000,000.
