MPP Ted Arnott Announces Provincial Funding for Linwood Community Sports Park

Waterloo-Wellington MPP Ted Arnott has announced that the Government of Ontario will contribute $229,345 to help the Township of Wellesley build the new Linwood Community Sports Park.

“The Mayor, Council, and staff of the Township of Wellesley as well as the many community volunteers, deserve enormous credit for their successful application for funding,” Mr. Arnott said.

“They are building a wonderful addition to Wellesley Township and improving the quality of life in Waterloo-Wellington. I am encouraged by Council’s plan and I am impressed with the high level of enthusiasm and support from volunteers and service groups who share a vision for better services for our residents," he added.

The centre will provide the community with space to accommodate social functions and meetings as well as state of the art sport facilities such as ball diamonds that can accommodate tournaments. The construction of soccer fields, tennis/basketball courts, playground facilities and a picnic shelter are planned for the site which will also be a link to the Kissing Bridge Trail. Ultimately, the centre will provide an expanded facility to house the Regional Library service, collections, programs and computers. The centre will also provide a safe and prominent location for the Cenotaph.

Provincial funding is being provided through the Sports, Culture and Tourism Partnerships (SCTP) component of the Ontario Government’s SuperBuild strategy to build for the future. Mr. Arnott received confirmation of the provincial share of the project from the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation, Tim Hudak. The total net cost of the project is $1,491,870.
