for J. Steckle Heritage Homestead Announced by Waterloo-Wellington
MPP Ted Arnott
Waterloo-Wellington
MPP Ted Arnott has announced that the J. Steckle Heritage
Homestead in Kitchener is receiving $32,415 from the
Government of Ontario for their innovative program,
Good Food to Grow On.
“This
is an excellent program idea. Supporting family development,
healthy child development, respect for nutrition and
our relationship with the land will enhance the values
that our children and families carry forward. This is
a program that will enhance our future. I congratulate
the J. Steckle Heritage Homestead and all of the volunteers
and partners involved for their success in obtaining
this funding. I was pleased to support their application,”
said Mr. Arnott.
Good
Food to Grow On will provide a field-to-table experience
through a hands-on learning approach for children in
their early years (3-6) and their parents. The project
offers four programs ranging from Ready Set Grow that
focuses on education and activities for children to
Home Grown, a six-week program for parents and children
to learn about food production by planting, harvesting
and cooking foods.
The
$32,415 is being allocated under the Government’s Ontario
Early Years Challenge Fund. The fund provides assistance
to projects that have also received support such as
in-kind contributions generated from businesses, charities,
and other sectors in the community. A key objective
is to support creative proposals for programs aimed
at helping children develop successfully during their
first six years of life.
